The Impact of the Aging Workforce on Public Sector Organizations
The purpose of this study, the result of an IPMA-HR survey conducted by EquaTerra, was to explore what efforts organizations are undertaking to understand and monitor their workforce. It attempts to determine how organizations anticipate their workforces and jurisdictions may change due to a potential increase in employee retirement, how these changes impact the organizations’ operations and abilities to achieve their overall missions and ability to deliver vital services, whether critical institutional knowledge will be lost as workers retire and whether key positions will remain vacant due to dwindling applicant pools. This study examines these and other important issues related to the impact of the aging workforce in the public sector.
