EquaTerra is pleased to release the findings from its inaugural European Legal Pulse survey. The European Legal Pulse Survey represents the launch of a new market study focused on the European outsourcing market. It complements and extends the global, regional and industry Pulse surveys that EquaTerra has conducted on a quarterly basis since 2004. EquaTerra will expand the Legal Pulse survey to the North American market later in 2010.

Since their inception in 2004, the EquaTerra Pulse surveys have yielded insightful market analyses including longitudinal comparisons derived from recurring topical themes. The Pulse surveys capture changes in demand, scope, capacity and related key market indicators. The surveys focus on where the market is going and how that direction is changing – or not – compared to prior quarters and years.

This inaugural edition of the European Legal Pulse survey addresses Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) market activity during the second half of 2009 and includes projections for the next quarters. Topics explored include:
  • Outsourcing Market Demand and Deal Characteristics
  • Top 2010 business and IT service market trends
  • Contract Complexity and Contentiousness
  • Contractual Terms and Conditions
  • Pricing and Commercial Terms
  • Service Provider Negotiation Characteristics
  • Usage of Outside Counsel
The purpose of conducting the Legal Pulse Survey is to incorporate another dimension into the analysis EquaTerra performs on conditions and trends in the global business and IT services markets. Third party law firms play an increasingly important role in buyers’ sourcing efforts by complementing and extending the capabilities of in-house legal counsel. They play a role similar to that of third party sourcing advisors by bringing specialised expertise, market knowledge and dedicated resources to buyers’ new and reletted sourcing efforts. The role of third party legal counsel will increase in importance as buyers’ sourcing efforts continue to mature and become more ambitious and global in nature. Specifically to the Legal Pulse, the inclusion of third party law firm perspectives enables EquaTerra to dig deeper into outsourcing issues and trends including those related to contract terms and conditions and pricing and commercial terms.

Distribution of the EquaTerra Pulse survey reports, controlled by EquaTerra, is intended for internal use and select delivery to EquaTerra clients, prospects and other marketplace representatives. Questions or comments regarding these surveys should be directed to Stan Lepeak, Managing Director of EquaTerra Global Research, +1 203 458 0677.
